The Milwaukee area is hopping with kid-friendly summer fun this weekend! Here are our top picks:

German Fest glockenspiel Henry Maier Festival Park Milwaukee Wisconsin

The sounds of carousel organs and the smell of German cuisine – sausage, sauerkraut, schnitzel, and craft beers – float through the festival grounds, bringing German culture to life.

Families head here each year for the Dachshund Derby and costume contest, the Glockenspiel clock that comes to life every few hours, traditional “tracht” clothing, German dance performances, a Children’s Activity Area with German crafts and language games, plus mascots, parades and more.

Pro Tips: Kids under 12 are always free. Friday admission is only $5.

Shark Days Touch Tank at Discovery World Milwaukee Wisconsin

Get ready to explore the fascinating world of sharks like never before during Discovery World’s Shark Days. Meet the new bamboo sharks in the Caribbean Tank and saltwater Touch Tank, and learn about their unique characteristics and important role in marine ecosystems.

This weekend’s highlights include a Caribbean Tunnel Dive & Shark Talk with aquarists on Thursday, July 27 (10 a.m.), an Invasive Species Cart on Friday, July 28, and a Touch Tank Feeding and Talk with aquarists on Sunday, July 30.

Kids can also make vacuum-formed Megalodon Teeth Ice Molds with the Kohl’s Design It! Lab, and fly over notable locations at the Flight Simulator.

Note: Discovery World closes early at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, for its Annual Gala.

Summer Spinz Family Skate Hour Red Arrow Park Milwaukee Wisconsin

For the third year running, Lakeside at MAM celebrates summer with a genre-spanning lineup of local musicians and DJs; yoga, meditation, and dance classes; and art making. It’s fun for all ages and easily accessible from the Oak Leaf Trail.

Grab a seat, find a table (or bring your own picnic blanket) and enjoy the outdoors (weather permitting). Create art, catch live programming, attend a yoga class, and take in the sights on the green space where the Museum hugs Lake Michigan.

In its fifth year, the Harry Potter Festival will once again feature characters from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, a giant LEGO display, a strolling magician, fantastic beasts, and a costume parade.

Muggles and Wizards alike will discover new features and join in the search for Horcruxes. It all takes place on the grounds of the Ozaukee County Historical Society’s Pioneer Village in Saukville.

New this year is “Dinner ala Hogwarts” served at 5pm. For $25 per person, you can dine with the characters from the world of Harry Potter.

Menomonee Falls Lavender Fest

This free event features a variety of services to get your kids ready for the new school year, including free kid’s backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last) and school-required immunizations for children (no insurance needed).

There will also be COVID-19 vaccines and boosters for anyone 6 months and older, health screenings for children and adults, and resources and information from Milwaukee Health Department programs and community partners.

Food trucks will be on-site, and free parking is available.
