China Lights “Year of the Dragon” Returns to Boerner Botanical Gardens on September 13

Milwaukee, WI – August 8, 2024 – The much-anticipated China Lights lantern festival is making its return to Boerner Botanical Gardens from September 13 to October 27, 2024.

Themed “Year of the Dragon,” this year’s event will showcase over 40 new, larger-than-life lantern displays, including a 48-foot-tall “Palace of Heaven” housing a dragon making its U.S. debut.

Presented by Tri-City Bank, China Lights is a collaboration between Milwaukee County Parks and Tianyu Arts & Culture.

The festival features an array of themed lanterns such as zodiac figures, a flower tunnel, and more interactive displays than ever before. Visitors can explore these stunning installations along a three-quarter-mile walking route within the picturesque gardens.

New for 2024, guests will enjoy enhanced interactive elements, including the Cape Leadwort lantern group, where visitors can adjust the brightness of the flowers.

The playground area has also been updated with more family-friendly activities.

In addition to the lantern displays, the festival will celebrate Asian culture with nightly live performances on the We Energies stage, along with diverse food and beverage options.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley expressed excitement for the event, stating, “China Lights not only highlights the vibrant traditions of Asian culture but also supports the maintenance and improvements of our Milwaukee County Parks.”

Guy Smith, Executive Director at Milwaukee County Parks, added, “We’re excited to host these enchanting evenings that highlight the beauty of our gardens in Hales Corners.”
