The Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM), located at 700 N. Art Museum Dr., recently enhanced its lighting capabilities, aligning itself with other illuminated downtown landmarks like the Hoan Bridge.
In a colorful unveiling last December, MAM introduced a spectrum of lights that added a new layer of beauty to the city’s skyline.
Starting this Valentine’s Day, February 14th, MAM announced a new schedule for its iconic wings – the Burke Brise Soleil – that will see them open with the museum at 10 a.m. (except Mondays when the museum is closed), flap at noon, and, weather permitting, remain open until 10 p.m.
The real magic happens at sundown when these wings will light up and continue to glow until closing time, even on Mondays.
The addition of new lighting features not only enhances the visual appeal of the Santiago Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion but also brings a dynamic element to the museum’s architecture.
Unlike the static white light of the past, the new lighting system allows for changing hues and movement, making the museum a captivating sight on Milwaukee’s skyline.
Initially, the lights were to be active every night through the end of 2023 and on Thursday nights when the museum stayed open until 8 p.m.
With the updated schedule, the museum promises more opportunities for families and visitors to enjoy these breathtaking views.
There are three great spots to witness the illuminated wings: Museum Center Park at the end of Wisconsin Avenue, the connecting footbridge that offers a direct view, or inside the museum from Windhover Hall which presents a mesmerizing perspective of the lights.
The enhanced lighting at MAM, coupled with the extended hours of its wings, is an invitation to families to experience the museum in a whole new light—literally.
