In a delightful development for families and sweet-toothed residents of Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Public Market has announced the upcoming opening of Freese’s Candy Shoppe, a beloved local confectioner known for its fairy food toffee and scrumptious turtles.
The West Allis-based candy shop is expanding its presence to the Historic Third Ward, offering its handmade chocolates, roasted nuts, and other signature treats.
The announcement comes on the heels of Kehr’s Candies closing their location at the market at the end of the month.
Slated to occupy a cozy 500-square-foot space, Freese’s Candy Shoppe is bringing a second location and nearly a century of candy-making tradition to the heart of Milwaukee.
The shop began in 1928, with Wendy and Mike Matel taking the helm in 1995. They’ve maintained the original recipes and techniques that have made Freese’s a staple.
The opening is targeted for March, in time for Easter, and the market and the Matels are gearing up to announce more details about the grand opening.
