As the national conversation around book bans continues to grow, the 2024 Banned Wagon Tour is hitting the road once again.
This year, the tour, powered by Penguin Random House, is partnering with Unite Against Book Bans (UABB), Little Free Library, and First Book to raise awareness about book censorship.
The tour will make nine stops across the Midwest and South, including a visit to Milwaukee Central Library on Tuesday, September 24.
At each stop, the Banned Wagon will distribute free copies of 20 banned or challenged books to attendees, including titles like I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, and The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
For those unable to attend in person, the Banned Wagon is expanding its reach through the Save Our Stories donation initiative.
By scanning a QR code featured on the wagon, people can trigger a book donation to a community in need, thanks to Penguin Random House’s partnership with First Book.
Additionally, over 50 Little Free Libraries along the tour route will receive banned books, ensuring broader access to these challenged titles.
